Garter Stitch Square Pattern
Materials:
- Worsted weight yarn in light blue, approximately 50 grams
- US Size 8 (5mm) knitting needles
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
Gauge:
- 18 stitches and 36 rows = 4 inches (10 cm) in garter stitch
Abbreviations:
- st(s) - stitch(es)
- k - knit
Instructions:
- Cast on 30 stitches. Use the long-tail cast-on method for a neat edge.
- Row 1: Knit all stitches across the row. This is your right side.
- Row 2: Knit all stitches across. This will create the garter stitch pattern.
- Repeat Row 2 until the piece measures approximately 8 inches (20 cm) from the cast-on edge. Consistently knitting every row establishes the garter stitch texture.
- Bind off all stitches loosely to maintain the elasticity of the fabric.
- Cut the yarn, leaving a 6-inch tail. Use a tapestry needle to weave in the ends securely on the wrong side of the work to ensure a clean finish.
Congratulations, you've completed your garter stitch square! Feel free to make multiple squares to join them into a larger project like a throw blanket.
