Materials Needed
- Yarn: Aran weight, 100% wool, 1000-1200 yards
- Needles: US 8 (5.0 mm) and US 6 (4.0 mm) circular needles
- Cable needle
- Tapestry needle
- Stitch markers
- Scissors
Gauge
18 sts and 24 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch
Abbreviations
- CO: Cast On
- K: Knit
- P: Purl
- CB6: Slip next 3 sts onto cable needle and hold at back, K3, then K3 from cable needle
- CF6: Slip next 3 sts onto cable needle and hold at front, K3, then K3 from cable needle
Pattern Instructions
Back
- CO 96 sts using US 6 needles. Work in K2, P2 ribbing for 2 inches.
- Switch to US 8 needles. Work in stockinette stitch (K on RS, P on WS) until piece measures 14 inches from CO edge.
- Begin cable pattern (For simplicity, cable pattern will be mirrored and centered):
Row 1 (RS): K6, *P3, CB6, P3, K6* across, end with K6.
Row 2 and all WS rows: P the purl sts and K the knit sts.
Row 3: Same as Row 1.
Row 5: K6, *P3, K6, P3, K6* across, end with K6.
Row 7: Same as Row 5.
Repeat Rows 1-8 until piece measures 23 inches from CO edge
- Bind off all sts.
Front
- Follow instructions for the back.
- Bind off all sts.
Sleeves
- CO 48 sts with US 6 needles. Work in K2, P2 ribbing for 2 inches.
- Switch to US 8 needles. Increase 1 st at each end of every 8th row until there are 72 sts.
- Continue in stockinette until sleeve measures 18 inches.
- Begin cable pattern:
Row 1 (RS): K3, *P3, CF6, P3, K3* to end.
Row 2 and all WS rows: P the purl sts and K the knit sts.
Row 3: Same as Row 1.
Repeat Rows 1-8 until piece measures 24 inches from CO edge.
- Bind off all sts.
Assembly
- Block all pieces to measurements.
- Sew shoulder seams.
- Attach sleeves to body, sew side and sleeve seams.
- Pick up and knit sts around neck using US 6 needles, and work K2, P2 ribbing for 1 inch. Bind off in pattern.
