Instructions
- Cast On: CO 64 stitches onto your circular needles. Place a stitch marker to mark the beginning of the round.
- Ribbing: Work in K2, P2 ribbing for the first 2 inches. This creates a nice stretchy brim for your hat.
- Body of Hat:
- Switch to stockinette stitch (knit every stitch in every row) for the next 5 inches.
- As you approach the end of this section, prepare to create the cable pattern.
- Cable Pattern:
- Next round: K8, then place the next 4 stitches on a cable needle and hold it at the back of your work, K4, then knit the 4 stitches from the cable needle (this creates the first cable).
- Repeat this pattern around the hat: K8, cable (4 stitches).
- Continue Cable Pattern: Repeat the cable pattern rounds for 2 inches.
- Decreasing for Top:
- Round 1: K6, K2tog around the hat.
- Round 2: K5, K2tog around the hat.
- Round 3: K4, K2tog around the hat.
- Continue in this manner until you have 8 stitches remaining.
- Finish:
- Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread the tail through the remaining stitches and pull tight to close the top of the hat.
- Weave in any loose ends using the tapestry needle.
Final Measurements
Your finished hat should fit snugly and comfortably, with a circumference of approximately 20-22 inches, suitable for most adult heads.
