Baby Bear Hat with Ear Flaps
Materials
- Worsted weight yarn in pink (1 skein)
- Worsted weight yarn in grey (1 skein)
- H/8 (5.0 mm) crochet hook
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle
- Measuring tape
Gauge
12 double crochets and 7 rows = 4 inches in double crochet.
Abbreviations
- ch - chain
- dc - double crochet
- sl st - slip stitch
- sc - single crochet
- st - stitch
- RS - right side
- WS - wrong side
Size
This pattern is designed for babies aged 6-12 months but can be adjusted by adding or subtracting stitches for different sizes.
Instructions
Base of the Hat
- Start with pink yarn. Make a magic ring.
- Round 1: Ch 2 (counts as first dc), 11 dc into the magic ring. Pull tight to close the ring. Join with a sl st to the top of the ch-2. (12 dc)
- Round 2: Ch 2, dc in the same st, 2 dc in each st around. Join with a sl st to the top of the ch-2. (24 dc)
- Round 3: Ch 2, *dc in the next st, 2 dc in the next st; repeat from * around. Join with a sl st. (36 dc)
- Rounds 4-7: Ch 2, dc in each st around. Join with a sl st. (36 dc)
Ear Flaps
- Change to grey yarn.
- Row 1: Ch 1, sc in the next 18 st, turn.
- Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each st across (18 sc), turn.
- Row 3: Ch 1, sc in the next 7 st, ch 12, skip the next 4 st, sc in the last 7 st. (You will have a chain in the middle of the flap.)
- Row 4: Ch 1, sc in each st across (18 sc), turn.
- Repeat Rows 1-4 two more times for a total of 3 ear flaps. Fasten off.
Bear Ears
- With grey yarn, make a magic ring. Ch 2, 11 dc into the magic ring. Pull tight and fasten off.
- Make 2 ears.
- Attach the ears to the top of the hat using the tapestry needle.
Finishing Touches
- Weave in all ends with the tapestry needle.
