Simple Crochet Tote Bag
This beginner-friendly tote bag is a great project for those new to crochet. It is made with cotton yarn and features a simple design with a sturdy, practical shape. Perfect for carrying daily essentials or beach gear!
Materials Needed:
- Worsted weight cotton yarn (approximately 200-250 yards in color of choice)
- Hook size H/8 (5.0 mm)
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
Gauge:
16 stitches and 20 rows = 4 inches in double crochet.
Abbreviations:
- ch = chain
- dc = double crochet
- sl st = slip stitch
- st(s) = stitch(es)
Instructions:
Base of Bag:
- Begin by making a slip knot and ch 30.
- Row 1: In the 4th ch from hook, make 1 dc. Make 1 dc in each ch across (28 dc total). Turn.
- Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), dc in each st across. (28 dc total). Turn.
- Repeat Row 2 until the piece measures 12 inches from the starting chain.
- For the last row, ch 1 and sl st to the next st to join and finish off. Weave in all ends.
Body of Bag:
- To begin the body, attach yarn to one corner of the base.
- Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), dc in each st across (28 dc total). Turn.
- Row 2: Ch 3, dc in each st across (28 dc total). Turn.
- Repeat Row 2 until the bag measures 12 inches tall or desired height.
- Finish off and weave in ends.
Handles:
- Attach yarn at the top edge of the bag, 4 inches in from the side seam.
- Ch 60 (or desired length for handles), sl st to the edge of the bag to form a loop. Repeat for the second handle on the other side of the bag.
- Secure the final stitches and cut the yarn, weaving in all ends.
Finishing:
