- Worsted weight yarn – 200g in vibrant red and 200g in deep purple
- Knitting needles – Size 8 (5mm)
- Cable needle
- Yarn needle for weaving in ends
Gauge
4 inches = 20 stitches in garter stitch
Abbreviations
- k: knit
- p: purl
- c3f: slip 3 stitches to a cable needle and hold in front, k3, then k3 from cable needle
Instructions
Scarf Body
- Using red yarn, cast on 40 stitches.
- Row 1 (Right Side): k all stitches.
- Row 2 (Wrong Side): k all stitches.
- Repeat rows 1 and 2 until the piece measures approximately 15 inches, ending with a right-side row.
- Switch to purple yarn.
- Row 1 (Right Side): *k6, c3f; repeat from * to end.
- Row 2 (Wrong Side): p all stitches.
- Continue alternating rows 1 and 2 of the cable pattern for another 15 inches, ending with a wrong-side row.
Finishing
- Switch back to red yarn.
- Row 1 (Right Side): k all stitches.
- Row 2 (Wrong Side): k all stitches.
- Repeat rows 1 and 2 until the piece measures 45 inches or your desired length.
- Cast off all stitches, ensuring not to pull too tightly.
- Weave in all ends using a yarn needle.
