Crochet Nut Bag

Materials

• Worsted weight yarn (100% cotton or acrylic) in cream color - approximately 100 yards
• Size H (5.0 mm) crochet hook
• Scissors
• Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
• Measuring tape or ruler

Gauge

In pattern stitch, 4 inches = 12 stitches. It’s recommended to make a gauge swatch to ensure you meet the required size.

Instructions

Base of the Bag

1. Ch 4 and join with a sl st to form a ring.
2. Round 1: Ch 1, work 10 sc in the ring. Join with a sl st to the first sc. (10 stitches)
3. Round 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in each st around. Join with a sl st to the first sc. (20 stitches)
4. Round 3: Ch 1, *sc in next st, 2 sc in next st; repeat from * around. Join with a sl st to the first sc. (30 stitches)
5. Round 4: Ch 1, *sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st; repeat from * around. Join with a sl st to the first sc. (40 stitches)

Body of the Bag

1. Round 5: Ch 2 (counts as first dc now and throughout), dc in each sc around. Join with a sl st to the top of the ch-2. (40 stitches)
2. Round 6-15: Repeat Round 5. You should have 15 total rounds when finished.

Finishing the Top Edging

1. Round 16: Ch 1, sc in the same stitch, then *ch 1, skip next st, sc in next st; repeat from * around. Join with a sl st to the first sc.
2. Round 17: Ch 1, sc in each ch-1 space around. Join with a sl st to the first sc.
3. Fasten off and weave in all ends using a tapestry needle.

Optional Drawstring

1. Cut a length of yarn approximately 40 inches long.
2. Thread it through the top edge, weaving in and out of the scs around.
3. Pull on the yarn to gather the top of the bag and tie a secure knot.
