Materials
- 2 skeins of cream yarn
- 2 skeins of fiery orange yarn
- 1 skein of deep red yarn
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle
Stitches Used
- Chain (ch)
- Slip Stitch (sl st)
- Single Crochet (sc)
- Double Crochet (dc)
Pattern Instructions
Starting the Blanket
- Using the cream yarn, create a foundation chain of 160 ch (or desired length for a larger blanket).
- Row 1: In the 2nd ch from the hook, sc. Sc in each ch across. Turn.
- Row 2: Ch 2 (counts as a dc), dc in next stitch, work 2 dc in each remaining ch across. Turn.
Phoenix Motif
- Switch to fiery orange yarn. Row 3: Ch 1, sc in first stitch, *[2 dc in next st, 1 sc in next st]* repeat until end. Turn.
- Row 4: Contour the shape of the phoenix by following the chart provided for a visual guide (design consists of 10 rows of varying stitches; adapt stitches as needed to create the wings and flames).
Finishing Touches
- Once the phoenix motif is complete, switch back to cream yarn.
- Work around the entire blanket with a border of sc, adding a decorative edge with deep red yarn every fourth stitch (ch 3 for a picot finish).
- Weave in all ends using a tapestry needle.
Care Instructions
Hand wash with cold water and lay flat to dry to maintain the shape and colors of your blanket.
