Crochet Cross Bookmark Pattern

Materials

  • Light worsted weight yarn in grey and yellow
  • 3.5 mm (E/4) crochet hook
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle

Gauge

Gauge is not critical for this project.

Abbreviations

  • ch – chain
  • sl st – slip stitch
  • sc – single crochet
  • dc – double crochet
  • sp – space

Instructions

Center Cross

  1. With grey yarn, create a magic ring. Ch 3 (counts as a dc), work 15 dc into the ring. Sl st to the top of the beginning ch 3 to join. (Total 16 dc)
  2. Fasten off grey yarn.
  3. Join yellow yarn in any dc. Ch 3 (counts as a dc), 1 dc in the same sp, ch 3, slip st in the same sp. *Sl st in the next dc, (1 dc, ch 3, sl st) in the same dc*; repeat from * to * around, ending with sl st in the first dc of round. Fasten off.

Arms of Cross

  1. Join grey yarn in any ch-3 sp on one of the arms. Ch 3 (counts as a dc), work 3 dc in same sp.
  2. Ch 3, turn, 1 dc in the next 3 dc, 2 dc in the last dc.
  3. Ch 3, turn, 1 dc in next 4 dc, 2 dc in last dc.
  4. Continue until arm measures approximately 2.5 inches.

Border

  1. Join yellow yarn at the base of the cross. Ch 1, sc in each dc and ch-3 sp across all edges of the cross. Sl st to join and fasten off.

Tassel

  1. Cut six strands of yellow yarn each approximately 8 inches long.
  2. Fold the strands in half and pull through the base of the cross to form a loop.
  3. Pull the ends through the loop and tighten to secure.

Finishing

Weave in any remaining ends with the tapestry needle. Block lightly if desired to ensure the cross lies flat.
