Materials:

Abbreviations:

Instructions:

Fox Hat:

  1. With red yarn and size 8 needles, cast on 72 stitches.

  5. Decrease for top of the hat:
    • Round 1: *(K6, K2tog); repeat from * around.
    • Round 2: Knit all stitches.
    • Round 3: *(K5, K2tog); repeat from * around.
    • Round 4: Knit all stitches.
    • Round 5: *(K4, K2tog); repeat from * around.
    • Round 6: Knit all stitches.
    • Round 7: *(K3, K2tog); repeat from * around.
    • Round 8: Knit all stitches.
    • Round 9: *(K2, K2tog); repeat from * around.
    • Round 10: *(K1, K2tog); repeat from * around.
    • Round 11: K2tog around (12 stitches remaining).
    • Cut yarn, leaving a long tail, and thread through remaining stitches. Pull tight to close and secure.
  6. For the ears, with white yarn, cast on 6 stitches. Knit 6 rows. Bind off.
  7. With red yarn, cast on 8 stitches. Knit 4 rows. Bind off.
  8. Attach the white knitted pieces to the top of the hat, and then sew the red pieces over them to create the ears.

Cardigan:

  1. With red yarn and size 8 needles, cast on 80 stitches.
  2. Work in 1x1 ribbing for the back edge, for 2 inches.
  3. Switch to stockinette stitch for the body, knitting until the piece measures 10 inches from cast-on edge.
  4. For the armholes, bind off 5 stitches at the beginning of the next 2 rows (70 stitches remain).
  5. Continue to knit until the total length measures 12 inches, then bind off all stitches loosely.
  6. For the sleeves, cast on 35 stitches. Work in stockinette for 8 inches.
  7. Bind off loosely, and make 2 sleeves.
  8. Utilize the yarn needle to sew the sleeves onto the main body, leaving space for the armholes.
  9. Attach buttons at the front for style and closure (optional).
