Cozy Textured Knit Beanie

Materials:

• Size 8 circular knitting needles (16-inch length)
• Double-pointed needles (size 8) for decreasing
• Worsted weight yarn, approximately 150 yards in gray
• Stitch marker
• Tapestry needle

Gauge:

4 sts = 1 inch in stockinette stitch

Abbreviations:

• CO: Cast on
• sts: Stitches
• k: Knit
• p: Purl
• k2tog: Knit two stitches together
• rep: Repeat
• rnd: Round

Instructions:

Brim:

1. CO 80 sts using circular needles. Join to work in the round, being careful not to twist stitches. Place marker to indicate beginning of round.
2. Work in 1x1 ribbing (k1, p1) for 2 inches.

Body:

3. Begin textured pattern:
   • Rnd 1: *K2, p2; rep from * around.
   • Rnd 2: *K2, p2; rep from * around.
   • Rnd 3: *P2, k2; rep from * around.
   • Rnd 4: *P2, k2; rep from * around.
4. Repeat Rnds 1-4 until the piece measures approximately 7 inches from the cast-on edge, ending on Rnd 4.

Shape Crown:

5. Switch to double-pointed needles when necessary.
6. Rnd 1: *K2tog, p2; rep from * around. (60 sts)
7. Rnd 2: *K1, p2; rep from * around.
8. Rnd 3: *K1, p2tog; rep from * around. (40 sts)
9. Rnd 4: *K1, p1; rep from * around.
10. Rnd 5: *K2tog; rep from * around. (20 sts)
11. Rnd 6: Knit all stitches.

Finishing:

12. Cut yarn, leaving a 12-inch tail. Thread the tail through the remaining stitches and pull tight to close the top of the hat. Secure and weave in all ends with a tapestry needle.
13. Block if desired to improve shape and texture.
