Christmas Baby Set: Hat and Cocoon

Materials

• Yarn: 2 skeins of red worsted weight yarn, 1 skein of green worsted weight yarn

Instructions

Cocoon

1. Cast on: Using the red yarn, CO 60 stitches.

4. Decrease: Begin decreasing for the top of the cocoon by k2tog at the beginning of each row for the next 6 rows (54 stitches total).
5. Continue to k2tog for every row until 12 stitches remain.
6. Finish: Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread the tail through the remaining stitches and pull tight to close. Weave in all ends.

Hat

1. Cast on: Using the green yarn, CO 56 stitches.
2. Ribbing: Work in k1, p1 ribbing for 3 inches.
3. Body: Change to red yarn and work in stockinette stitch for 5 inches.
4. Decrease: Begin decreasing for the top of the hat by k2tog at the beginning of each row for the next 4 rows (42 stitches total).
5. Continue the decrease every other row until 12 stitches remain.
6. Finishing: Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread through the remaining stitches and pull tight. To create the tassel, cut 6-8 strands of green yarn about 8 inches long, fold them in half, and tie them securely to the top of the hat. Weave in all ends.
