Christmas Baby Set: Hat and Cocoon
This set includes both a hat and a cocoon for the baby, made in festive red and green colors. The cocoon is snug and cozy, while the hat features a charming pointed top with a fun tassel.
Materials
- Yarn: 2 skeins of red worsted weight yarn, 1 skein of green worsted weight yarn
- Needles: US size 8 (5.0 mm) circular needles, 16 inch length
- Stitch markers
- Yarn needle for weaving in ends
Gauge
18 stitches and 24 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch.
Abbreviations
- k: knit
- p: purl

- CO: cast on

Instructions
Cocoon
- Cast on: Using the red yarn, CO 60 stitches.
- Ribbing: Work in k1, p1 ribbing for 4 inches.
- Body: Change to stockinette stitch (knit every row) and continue for 12 inches or until the desired length is reached.
- Decrease: Begin decreasing for the top of the cocoon by k2tog at the beginning of each row for the next 6 rows (54 stitches total).
- Continue to k2tog for every row until 12 stitches remain.
- Finish: Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread the tail through the remaining stitches and pull tight to close. Weave in all ends.
Hat
- Cast on: Using the green yarn, CO 56 stitches.
- Ribbing: Work in k1, p1 ribbing for 3 inches.
- Body: Change to red yarn and work in stockinette stitch for 5 inches.
- Decrease: Begin decreasing for the top of the hat by k2tog at the beginning of each row for the next 4 rows (42 stitches total).
- Continue the decrease every other row until 12 stitches remain.
- Finishing: Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread through the remaining stitches and pull tight. To create the tassel, cut 6-8 strands of green yarn about 8 inches long, fold them in half, and tie them securely to the top of the hat. Weave in all ends.
