- Rnd: Round
- St(s): Stitch(es)
- CO: Cast on
- BO: Bind off
Instructions
- Cast On: CO 60 stitches using the long-tail cast-on method on the circular needles.
- Join in the Round: Being careful not to twist the stitches, join to work in the round and place a stitch marker to indicate the beginning of the round.
- Brim: Work in 1x1 ribbing (K1, P1) for the first 2 inches (5 cm). This will create a stretchy brim.
- Body of Hat: Switch to stockinette stitch (K in the round) and knit until the hat measures 5 inches (12.7 cm) from the cast-on edge.
- Decreases: Begin decrease round by K2tog (knit two together) across the round, repeating until you have approximately 30 stitches left.
- Continue Decreasing: Knit a round plain, then repeat the K2tog round again until you are down to about 15 stitches.
- Knit Together: Finally, knit all stitches together to leave with 5-6 stitches remaining. Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail.
- Finishing: Pull the tail through the remaining stitches and pull tight. Weave in all ends using a tapestry needle.
- Create Top Knot: For the top knot, cut a piece of yarn about 12 inches long, fold it in half, and tie it to the top of the hat securely, making a little pom-pom or tuft.
