Materials Needed
- Yarn: Super bulky yarn in warm sunset tones: deep orange, rich red, golden yellow, and soft coral.
- Knitting Needles: Size US 15 (10 mm).
- Tapestry Needle: For weaving in ends.
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Cuff
- Using the deep orange yarn, cast on 24 stitches.
- Work in 1x1 ribbing (knit 1 stitch, purl 1 stitch) for 6 rows. This will create a stretchy cuff that hugs your ankle.
2. Leg
- Switch to stockinette stitch: knit one row, then purl the next row. Repeat this for 4 rows.
- Begin the checkered pattern:
- Row 1: *K3 with rich red, K3 with golden yellow*; repeat from * to * across the row.
- Row 2: *P3 with rich red, P3 with golden yellow*; repeat from * to * across the row.
- Row 3: *K3 with golden yellow, K3 with rich red*; repeat from * to * across the row.
- Row 4: *P3 with golden yellow, P3 with rich red*; repeat from * to * across the row.
- Repeat these 4 rows for a total of 12 rows to create the checkered leg pattern.
3. Heel
- Divide the stitches for the heel by placing 12 stitches on a holder.
- Work short rows on the remaining 12 stitches using the soft coral yarn:
- Row 1: Knit 10 stitches, then turn your work.
- Row 2: Purl 8 stitches, then turn your work.
- Row 3: Knit 6 stitches, then turn your work.
- Row 4: Purl 4 stitches, then turn your work.
- Continue this pattern, decreasing by 2 stitches each row until only 4 stitches remain.
- Pick up the wrapped stitches and knit across all stitches.
4. Foot
- Resume knitting across all stitches in the established checkered pattern.
- Continue this pattern for 20 rows to complete the foot of the slipper.
5. Toe
- Begin toe decreases using the deep orange yarn:
- Row 1: *K2 together, K4*; repeat from * to * across the row.
- Row 2: Knit all stitches.
- Row 3: *K2 together, K3*; repeat from * to * across the row.
- Row 4: Knit all stitches.
- Continue decreasing in this manner until only 8 stitches remain.
- Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread the tail through the remaining stitches and pull tight to close the toe.
6. Finishing
- Sew the heel seam using the mattress stitch for a seamless finish.
- Weave in all ends using the tapestry needle to ensure a clean look.
Repeat all steps for the second slipper to complete your cozy pair!
