Textured Beanie Pattern

This beginner-friendly textured beanie will keep you warm while showcasing your knitting skills. The hat is made with a lovely golden yarn that adds warmth and style. Let’s dive into the pattern!

Materials

  • 1 skein of worsted weight yarn (approximately 100 grams) in golden yellow
  • Set of 5 mm (US 8) circular knitting needles
  • Stitch marker
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Gauge

15 stitches and 20 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch. It’s best to make a swatch before starting to ensure your beanie fits correctly.

Instructions

Step 1: Cast On

CO 80 stitches using a long tail cast on method onto circular needles. Place a stitch marker at the beginning of the round to indicate the start.

Step 2: Ribbing

Work in ribbing for 2 inches: 1x1 ribbing (K1, P1) around.

Step 3: Body of the Hat

After completing the ribbing, switch to stockinette stitch for the body of the hat:

  • Continue knitting in the round (knit every round) until the piece measures 6 inches from the cast-on edge.

Step 4: Decrease for the Crown

Begin decreasing to shape the crown of the beanie:

  • Rnd 1: *K8, K2tog* repeat from * to * around (72 stitches total).
  • Rnd 2: Knit all stitches.
  • Rnd 3: *K7, K2tog* repeat from * to * around (64 stitches total).
  • Rnd 4: Knit all stitches.
  • Rnd 5: *K6, K2tog* repeat from * to * around (56 stitches total).
  • Rnd 6: Knit all stitches.
  • Rnd 7: *K5, K2tog* repeat from * to * around (48 stitches total).
  • Rnd 8: Knit all stitches.
  • Rnd 9: *K4, K2tog* repeat from * to * around (40 stitches total).
  • Rnd 10: Knit all stitches.
  • Rnd 11: *K3, K2tog* repeat from * to * around (32 stitches total).
  • Rnd 12: Knit all stitches.
  • Rnd 13: *K2, K2tog* repeat from * to * around (24 stitches total).
  • Rnd 14: Knit all stitches.
  • Rnd 15: *K1, K2tog* repeat from * to * around (16 stitches total).
  • Rnd 16: *K2tog* repeat around to end (8 stitches total).

Step 5: Finishing

Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail. Use the tapestry needle to thread the tail through the remaining stitches and pull tight to close the top of the hat. Weave in all ends securely.
