Sunshine Summer Crop Top

This stylish crop top features a beautiful blend of blues with a simple yet effective stitch design. Perfect for summer gatherings or beach days, this top will surely become a favorite!

Materials Needed:

  • Medium worsted weight cotton yarn in three colors: navy blue, light blue, and aqua (approximately 200 yards total)
  • 4.5 mm crochet hook
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
  • Measuring tape
  • Stitch markers (optional)

Gauge:

14 double crochet stitches and 8 rows = 4 inches (10 cm) square.

Abbreviations:

  • ch = chain
  • sc = single crochet
  • dc = double crochet
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • yo = yarn over

Instructions:

Back Panel:

  1. With navy blue yarn, make a slip knot and ch 35 (or adjust for desired width).
  2. Row 1: Dc in the 4th ch from hook (this counts as your first dc), dc in each ch across (totaling 32 dc). Turn.
  3. Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in each dc across. Turn. (32 dc)
  4. Repeat Row 2 until the piece measures 12 inches tall from the starting chain. (You should have approximately 14 rows.)
  5. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Front Panel:

  1. Change to aqua yarn, and repeat the same process as the back panel. However, when you reach the 8th row, switch to light blue yarn.
  2. Continue with light blue until the front panel also measures 12 inches tall, then fasten off.

Joining the Panels:

  1. Align the back and front panels together. Starting from the bottom, use the long tail from the back panel to sew the two pieces together about 2 inches up from the bottom. Leave the top open for the armholes.
  2. Use stitch markers to help maintain alignment.

Straps:

  1. For the straps, with navy blue yarn, ch 50 (or adjust for desired strap length).
  2. Row 1: Sc in the 2nd ch from hook and across (totaling 49 sc). Turn.
  3. Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc across. Turn. Repeat Row 2 until strap measures 18 inches long.
  4. Fasten off. Make 2 straps following the same instructions.

Finishing:

  1. Sew each strap to the top corners of the front panel, ensuring they are secure.
  2. Weave in all ends with the tapestry needle.

Care Instructions:

Hand wash in cold water, lay flat to dry.
