Crochet Whimsical Winter Wonderland Throw Free Pattern

Materials Needed:

  • #4 worsted weight yarn in the following colors: Cream, Forest Green, Bright Red, Snow White, Charcoal Gray
  • Hook size: 5mm (H-8)
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors
  • Measuring tape

Finished Size:

Approximately 50" x 60".

Stitches Used:

  • Chain (ch)
  • Slip stitch (sl st)
  • Single crochet (sc)
  • Double crochet (dc)
  • Front post double crochet (FPdc)
  • Back post double crochet (BPdc)

Pattern Notes:

  • Ch-3 at the beginning of a dc row counts as a dc.
  • Carry yarn throughout color changes to avoid weaving in ends.

Pattern Instructions:

Blanket Base:

  1. Begin with a foundation chain of 148.
  2. Row 1: Dc in the 4th chain from the hook, dc across (146 dc). Turn.
  3. Row 2: Ch 3, dc across. Turn.
  4. Repeat Row 2 until blanket measures 40 inches in height. (Approximately 35 rows)

Winter Wonderland Motifs:

Each motif will be created as separate squares, then sewn onto the base of the blanket.

Snowflake Motif:

  1. With Snow White yarn, make a magic ring.
  2. Round 1: Ch 1, 12 sc in ring. Join with a sl st to first sc.
  3. Round 2: Ch 3, *dc in next st, ch 1, skip one st; repeat from * around. Join.
  4. Fasten off.

Pine Tree Motif:

  1. With Forest Green yarn, make a magic ring.
  2. Round 1: Ch 1, 10 sc in ring. Join.
  3. Round 2: Ch 3, 2 dc in each st around (20 dc). Join.
  4. Round 3: Ch 1, *sc in next st, 2 sc in next; repeat from * around. Join.
  5. Fasten off.

House Motif:

  1. With Charcoal Gray yarn, ch 13.
  2. Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc across (12 sc).
  3. Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st.
  4. Finish with a triangle roof using FPdc in a contrasting color.

Assembly:

  1. Arrange the motifs on the blanket to your liking.
  2. Using a yarn needle, sew each motif onto the blanket.
  3. Border: With Bright Red yarn, sc around the entire blanket, adding 3 sc in each corner. Join and fasten off.

Final Touch:

Weave in all ends and block if necessary. Enjoy your cozy crochet throw!
