Crochet Modern Geometric Floral Throw Blanket

Skill Level: Beginner

Yarn: Worsted weight (Medium – 4) Approx. 1,200 yards (for a throw blanket size of 50" x 60")

Hook: 5.5 mm (I-9)

Gauge: 14 stitches and 8 rows = 4 inches in double crochet.

Stitches Used

  • Chain (ch)
  • Double Crochet (dc)
  • Slip Stitch (sl st)

Pattern Instructions

Blanket Body:

  • Chain 108 to start a foundation row (this width can be adjusted for desired size).
  • Row 1: In the 4th chain from hook, dc. Dc in each chain across. (106 dc)
  • Row 2: Ch 2 (counts as first dc), turn. *In next dc, work 2 dc in the same stitch (increase), skip the next 2 dc, single in the next dc; repeat from * across, ending with a dc in the last stitch. (Approx. 70 stitches)
  • Row 3: Ch 2, turn. *In the skipped spaces from the previous row, dc; skip 2 stitches; repeat from * across. (Approx. 70 dc)
  • Repeat Rows 2 and 3 until your piece measures roughly 60" in length, or until desired size is achieved.

Geometric Floral Motif:

  • Choose contrasting color for the floral motifs.
  • Using the Flower Motif pattern, create at least 8 individual flower motifs.
  • Motif Pattern:
    • Ch 6, join with sl st to form a ring.
    • Round 1: Ch 3, dc in ring; (ch 3, sl st in ring) 5 times, sl st to join. (6 petals)
    • Round 2: Change color; chain 1, in each ch-3 space, work (sc, ch 3, sc). Join with sl st.

Assembly:

  • Evenly space flower motifs on the blanket surface and sew them down with matching yarn.
  • Add a simple border by working a sc around the entire blanket, joining with sl st at the end.
