Cozy Red Hat, Scarf, and Mitts Set

Materials
- Worsted weight yarn in red (approximately 400 yards total)
- US Size 8 (5 mm) circular knitting needles
- US Size 8 (5 mm) double-pointed knitting needles
- Stitch markers
- Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
- Scissors
Gauge
20 stitches and 24 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch.
Abbreviations
- K = knit
- P = purl
- CO = cast on
- BO = bind off
- sts = stitches
- rnd = round
Instructions
Hat
- CO 80 sts using circular needles.
- Join to work in the round, being careful not to twist the stitches.
- Work in ribbing (K1, P1) for 2 inches.
- Next round: K all stitches for 6 inches.
- Begin decreasing: K12, K2tog around (70 sts). Repeat this decrease every other round until 10 sts remain.
- Thread the remaining stitches through a tapestry needle, pull tight, and secure.
Scarf
- CO 30 sts using circular needles.
- Work in (K2, P2) ribbing for the entire length.
- Continue until the scarf measures approximately 60 inches long.
- BO all stitches loosely.
Mitts (Make 2)
- CO 40 sts using double-pointed needles.
- Join to work in the round, being careful not to twist the stitches.
- Work (K2, P2) ribbing for 4 inches for the cuff.
- Add thumbhole: K20, place next 10 sts on a stitch holder (this will be the thumb later), K to end.
- Continue working in the round until the mitts measure 7 inches from cuff.
- Begin decreasing: K2, K2tog around. Repeat this decrease until 10 sts remain.
- For thumb, pick up the 10 sts left on the holder, K around for 2 inches and BO.
- Weave in all ends securely.
