Cozy Kid's Sweater Pattern
Materials:
- Yarn: Worsted weight yarn in cream, approximately 400 yards
- Knitting Needles: US size 8 (5mm) circular needles
- Tapestry needle
- Stitch markers
- Tape measure
Gauge:
18 stitches and 24 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch
Abbreviations:
- CO: Cast On
- K: Knit
- P: Purl
- St(s): Stitch(es)
- BO: Bind Off
- RS: Right Side
- WS: Wrong Side
Instructions:
Body:
- CO 80 sts. Join in the round, place marker and be careful not to twist.
- Ribbing: Work in K2, P2 ribbing for 2 inches.
- Change to stockinette stitch (I.e., K all rounds) and work until piece measures 12 inches from CO edge.
Divide for Armholes:
- Split work in half (40 sts for front, 40 sts for back). Work back and forth in rows for each piece separately.
- Front: Work in stockinette (K row on RS, P row on WS) until piece measures 6 inches from division row.
- Shape Neck: BO 8 sts at beginning of next 2 rows, then 2 sts at next 4 rows.
- Continue in pattern until piece measures 8 inches from division row. BO all sts.
- Back: Repeat as for front without the neck shaping. BO all sts.
Sleeves (Make 2):
- Pick up and knit 40 sts around armhole. Join to work in the round.
- Work in stockinette stitch for 8 inches.
- Ribbing: Work K2, P2 ribbing for 2 inches.
- BO all sts loosely in pattern.
Finishing:
- Seam shoulder stitches using the mattress stitch.
- Weave in all loose ends with the tapestry needle.
- Block gently to measurements.
