Cozy Blue Garter Stitch Scarf Pattern

This easy scarf is perfect for beginners! The garter stitch pattern is simple and repetitive, making it an ideal project for learning the basics of knitting.

Materials:

  • 1 skein of worsted weight yarn (color: turquoise)
  • Size 8 knitting needles (5.0 mm)
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Gauge:

16 stitches x 28 rows = 4 inches in garter stitch

Abbreviations:

  • K: Knit
  • WS: Wrong Side
  • RS: Right Side

Instructions:

  1. Cast On: Begin by casting on 30 stitches using the long tail cast on method. This will create a scarf that is approximately 6 inches wide. Adjust the number of stitches if you want a wider or narrower scarf.
  2. Garter Stitch Rows:
    • Row 1 (RS): Knit across all stitches.
    • Row 2 (WS): Knit across all stitches.

Repeat these two rows until the scarf measures approximately 60 inches long, or to your desired length.

  3. Bind Off: Once you reach the desired length, bind off all stitches. To bind off, knit the first two stitches, then use your left needle to lift the first stitch over the second stitch and off the needle. Continue until all stitches are bound off.
  4. Finish: Cut the yarn leaving a tail of about 6 inches. Pull the tail through the last stitch to secure it. Use a tapestry needle to weave in any loose ends.

Finishing Touches:

Your cozy blue garter stitch scarf is now complete! You can add fringes to the ends if desired, or simply wear it as is. This scarf is perfect for both casual and dressy outfits, making it a versatile addition to your wardrobe.
