Materials

• Worsted weight yarn in red, blue, green, yellow, and black

Instructions

Granny Square

1. With red yarn, make a slip knot and chain 4. Join with a sl st to form a ring.
2. Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as dc here and throughout), 2 dc in ring, *ch 2, 3 dc in ring; repeat from * 2 more times, ch 2, join with sl st to top of beginning ch-3. (12 dc, 4 ch-2 spaces)
3. Round 2: Sl st in the next 2 dcs and into the ch-2 space, ch 3, 2 dc in ch-2 space, ch 1, *(3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in the next ch-2 space, ch 1; repeat from * 2 more times, (3 dc, ch 2) in remaining ch-2 space, join with sl st to top of beginning ch-3.
4. Fasten off red yarn and join blue yarn in any ch-2 corner space.
5. Round 3: Ch 3, 2 dc in same ch-2 space, ch 1, 3 dc in next ch-1 space, ch 1, *(3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 corner space, ch 1, 3 dc in next ch-1 space, ch 1; repeat from * 2 more times, (3 dc, ch 2) in last ch-2 space, join with sl st to top of beginning ch-3.
6. Fasten off blue yarn and join green yarn in any ch-2 corner space.
7. Round 4: Repeat Round 3 instructions using green yarn.
8. Fasten off green yarn and join yellow yarn in any ch-2 corner space.
9. Round 5: Repeat Round 3 instructions using yellow yarn, ensuring each square ends with a ch 2 at the corners.
10. Fasten off and weave in all ends.

Joining Squares

1. Arrange squares in desired pattern.
2. Using black yarn, join squares by sc across, ensuring to ch 1 between each dc cluster and each square.

Edging

1. With black yarn, work sc around the entire border of the blanket, working 3 sc in each corner ch-2 space.
2. Fasten off and weave in all ends.
