Chunky Ribbed Fingerless Gloves Knitting Pattern

Introduction

Welcome to your new favorite knitting project! In this blog post, we will guide you through creating cozy, chunky fingerless gloves that feature a stylish ribbed cuff and a textured body. These gloves are perfect for keeping your hands warm while allowing you the freedom of movement to use your phone, type, or enjoy a hot drink. Whether you're a beginner or looking to refine your skills, this pattern is designed to be easy to follow and enjoyable to knit.

Materials Needed

  • Yarn: Super bulky weight yarn
  • Needles: US 11 (8 mm) knitting needles
  • Gauge: 8 stitches and 12 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch
  • Stitch markers: 4 markers to help with finger shaping
  • Scissors: For cutting yarn
  • Tapestry needle: For weaving in ends

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Cast On: Begin by casting on 24 stitches onto your US 11 (8 mm) knitting needles. Ensure your stitches are not too tight; you want them to be comfortable for the ribbing.
  2. Ribbing for Cuff: Work in k2, p2 ribbing for 2 inches. This means you will knit 2 stitches, then purl 2 stitches, repeating this pattern until you reach the desired length for the cuff. Make sure to keep your tension consistent.
  3. Switch to Stockinette Stitch: After completing the ribbing, switch to stockinette stitch. To do this, simply knit every stitch in the round. Continue this for 4 inches. This will create the main body of the glove.
  4. Shaping for Fingers: Once you have completed the stockinette section, it’s time to shape the fingers. Divide the 24 stitches into four sections of 6 stitches each. Place a stitch marker between each section to help keep track of your stitches.
  5. Continue in Stockinette: Continue knitting in stockinette stitch, but now you will begin decreasing. Every other round, decrease 1 stitch at each marker. To decrease, simply knit two stitches together (k2tog) at each marker. Repeat this until you have 2 stitches remaining in each section (a total of 8 stitches).
  6. Bind Off: Once you have reached the desired number of stitches, bind off loosely. This is important to ensure that the top of your gloves is not too tight. To bind off, knit 2 stitches, then pass the first stitch over the second and off the needle. Continue this until all stitches are bound off.
  7. Weave in Ends: Finally, use your tapestry needle to weave in any loose ends. This will give your gloves a clean finish and ensure they are ready for wear.

Congratulations! You have now completed your very own pair of chunky ribbed fingerless gloves. Enjoy the warmth and style they bring to your chilly days!
