Cabled Scarf and Knit Beanie Set
Materials:
- Worsted weight yarn (approximately 400 yards for scarf and 200 yards for beanie) in a dark gray color
- US size 8 (5 mm) knitting needles for both scarf and beanie
- Cable needle
- Yarn needle for weaving in ends
- Scissors
Gauge:
18 stitches and 24 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch.
Abbreviations:
- k = knit
- p = purl
- st = stitch
- k2tog = knit two together
- p2tog = purl two together
- cable = follow your cable stitch pattern (e.g., C4F = 4 stitches front cable)
- BO = bind off
- CO = cast on
Scarf Instructions:
- Cast on 40 stitches using the long tail method.
- Row 1: *k4, p4; repeat from * to end of row.
- Row 2: *p4, k4; repeat from * to end of row.
- Repeat Rows 1 and 2 until your scarf measures approximately 8 inches wide.
- Begin cable pattern: Follow your desired cable pattern, working over 12 stitches; rest will remain in ribbing or plain. Continue until scarf measures 60 inches long.
- On the last row, switch back to ribbing for 4 rows to finish.
- Bind off all stitches and weave in ends.
Beanie Instructions:
- Cast on 80 stitches using long tail method.
- Row 1: *k2, p2; repeat from * to end of row.
- Work in ribbing for 4 inches until it fits snugly around your head.
- Begin the crown decrease: Row 1: *k2, k2tog; repeat from * to end of row (60 sts).
- Row 2: *k1, k2tog; repeat from * to end of row (40 sts).
- Row 3: *k2tog; repeat from * to end of row (20 sts).
- Row 4: *k2tog; repeat from * to end of row (10 sts).
- Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail, and thread through remaining stitches. Pull tight to close the top of the hat.
- Weave in all ends and enjoy your warm beanie!
