Materials Needed
- Yarn: Vibrant neon acrylic yarn in pink, green, blue, and yellow
- Hook: 3.5mm crochet hook
- Stuffing: Polyester fiberfill (for stuffing the alien)
- Scissors: For cutting yarn
- Tapestry needle: For weaving in ends and sewing pieces together
Step-by-Step Instructions
Body
- Start with a magic ring. To create a magic ring, wrap the yarn around your fingers to form a loop, then insert your hook into the loop.
- Round 1: Work 6 single crochets (sc) into the magic ring. Pull the tail of the yarn to tighten the ring.
- Round 2: Increase in each stitch around (12 stitches total). To increase, work 2 sc in the same stitch.
- Round 3: (Sc in next stitch, increase in next stitch) around (18 stitches total).
- Rounds 4-8: Sc in each stitch around (18 stitches total).
- Round 9: (Sc in next 2 stitches, increase in next stitch) around (24 stitches total).
- Rounds 10-14: Sc in each stitch around (24 stitches total). At this point, you can stuff the body lightly with polyester fiberfill.
Asymmetrical Shaping
Arm
- Using neon pink yarn, attach the yarn to one side of the body.
- Chain (ch) 6, then sc in the 2nd ch from the hook and across (5 sc).
- Slip stitch (sl st) to the body to attach the arm, then fasten off and weave in the ends.
Leg
- Using neon green yarn, attach the yarn to the opposite side of the body.
- Ch 8, then sc in the 2nd ch from the hook and across (7 sc).
- Sl st to the body to attach the leg, then fasten off and weave in the ends.
Eye
- Using neon blue yarn, create another magic ring.
- Work 6 sc in the magic ring, then sl st to the first sc to close the round.
- Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Attach the eye to the body, slightly off-center for a whimsical look.
Embellishments
- Using neon yellow yarn, create French knots randomly across the body to add spots. To make a French knot, wrap the yarn around the needle 2-3 times, insert the needle back into the fabric, and pull tight.
Antenna
- Using neon pink yarn, attach the yarn to the top of the head.
- Ch 5, then sc in the 2nd ch from the hook and across (4 sc).
- Fasten off and weave in the ends. Position the antenna slightly curved for a playful effect.
