Crochet Vibrant Rainbow Earflap Hat with Pom Pom Free Pattern

Materials Needed:

• Worsted weight yarn in purple, blue, green, yellow, orange, and red
• Crochet hook size H/5mm
• Yarn needle
• Scissors

Abbreviations:

• ch = chain
• sc = single crochet
• dc = double crochet
• sl st = slip stitch
• st = stitch
• rep = repeat

Instructions:

Hat Base:

1. With purple yarn, make a magic ring, ch 2 (counts as first dc here and throughout), 11 dc into ring, sl st to top of ch 2. (12 sts)
2. Ch 2, 2 dc in each st around, sl st to top of ch 2. (24 sts)
3. Ch 2, 2 dc in next st, 1 dc in next st, rep around, sl st to top of ch 2. (36 sts)
4. Ch 2, 2 dc in next st, 1 dc in next 2 sts, rep around, sl st to top of ch 2. (48 sts)
5. Ch 2, 2 dc in next st, 1 dc in next 3 sts, rep around, sl st to top of ch 2. (60 sts)
6. Change to blue yarn. Ch 2, dc in each st around, sl st to top of ch 2.
7. Repeat previous round with green yarn, yellow yarn, orange yarn, and red yarn, making 1 round with each color.
8. Once you finish the last round in red, fasten off.

Earflaps (Make 2):

1. With purple yarn, find the center back of the hat, count 10 sts to the left, attach yarn.
2. Row 1: Ch 2, dc in next 10 sts. Turn.
3. Row 2: Ch 2, dc2tog, dc until last 2 sts, dc2tog. Turn.
4. Repeat Row 2 until 2 sts remain. Fasten off.
5. Repeat Earflap instructions directly across from the first earflap.

Braid and Pom Pom:

1. Cut six 18” lengths of each color yarn. Using three pieces for each braid, attach them to the end of each earflap using a lark's head knot.
2. Braid the yarn and secure with a knot, trim ends evenly.
3. For the pom pom, wrap multiple colors around a pom pom maker or your fingers 100 times, tie tightly, and trim.
4. Securely attach the pom pom to the top of the hat.

Finishing Touches:

• Weave in all ends with a yarn needle.
