Materials Needed
- Red Heart Kids medium-weight yarn in blue, white, and green
- Crochet hook size I (5.5mm)
- 5 wooden buttons
- Tapestry needle
- Scissors
Gauge
16 sts and 20 rows = 4 inches in single crochet (sc).
Instructions
Body of the Cardigan
- Starting at the waistband, chain (ch) 72.
- Row 1: Single crochet (sc) in the second chain from hook and in each chain across, turn. (71 sc)
- Rows 2-24: Ch 1, sc in each stitch (st) across, turn.
Sleeves
- Attach yarn to armhole, ch 1.
- Row 1: Sc around the armhole evenly, ensuring you have 30 sts, join with slip stitch (sl st), turn.
- Rows 2-20: Ch 1, sc in each st around, join with sl st, turn.
- Fasten off and repeat for other sleeve.
Neckline and Button Band
- Attach white yarn at the bottom corner of the front opening.
- Row 1: Sc up one side, around the neckline, and down the other side, turn.
- Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), *skip next sc, dc in next st, dc in skipped sc* repeat across, ensuring outermost edges form a scallop pattern.
- Sew on buttons evenly spaced along the right front edge.
Floral Embroidery
- Using white yarn, embroider 4 or 5 petal daisy shapes scattered across the bottom of the cardigan and the cuffs.
- With green yarn, add stems and small leaves.
- Use yellow yarn to embroider small centers on each daisy.
Finishing
- Weave in all loose ends with the tapestry needle.
- Block the cardigan to shape, if necessary.
