Crochet Charming Reindeer Pot Holder Free Pattern

Materials Needed:

  • Medium weight cotton yarn in tan, brown, red, and white
  • Crochet hook size H/8 (5mm)
  • Tapestry needle
  • Two small black buttons or safety eyes
  • Black embroidery thread

Abbreviations:

  • ch = chain
  • sc = single crochet
  • dc = double crochet
  • st = stitch
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • inc = increase (2 sc in one st)

Instructions:

Reindeer Head:

  1. Using tan yarn, create a magic circle.
  2. Round 1: 6 sc in the magic circle. Join with sl st. (6 sts)
  3. Round 2: Inc in each st around. Join with sl st. (12 sts)
  4. Round 3: (Sc in next st, inc) around. Join with sl st. (18 sts)
  5. Round 4: (Sc in next 2 sts, inc) around. Join with sl st. (24 sts)
  6. Round 5: (Sc in next 3 sts, inc) around. Join with sl st. (30 sts)
  7. Round 6: (Sc in next 4 sts, inc) around. Join with sl st. (36 sts)
  8. Round 7: (Sc in next 5 sts, inc) around. Join with sl st. (42 sts)
  9. Round 8: (Sc in next 6 sts, inc) around. Join with sl st. (48 sts)
  10. Round 9: Sc around. Join with sl st. Finish off and weave in ends. (48 sts)

Muzzle:

  1. Using white yarn, create a magic circle.
  2. Round 1: 6 sc in the magic circle. Join with sl st. (6 sts)
  3. Round 2: Inc in each st around. Join with sl st. (12 sts)
  4. Round 3: (Sc in next st, inc) around. Join with sl st. (18 sts)
  5. Round 4: (Sc in next 2 sts, inc) around. Join with sl st. (24 sts)
  6. Round 5: (Sc in next 3 sts, inc) around. Join with sl st. (30 sts)
  7. Finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Nose:

  1. Using red yarn, create a magic circle.
  2. Round 1: 6 sc in the magic circle. Join with sl st. (6 sts)
  3. Round 2: Inc in each st around. Join with sl st. (12 sts)
  4. Round 3: (Sc in next st, inc) around. Join with sl st. (18 sts)
  5. Finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Ears (Make 2):

  1. Using tan yarn, ch 6.
  2. Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn. (5 sts)
  3. Row 2: Sc in each st across. Ch 1, turn. (5 sts)
  4. Row 3: Sc2tog, sc in next st, sc2tog. Ch 1, turn. (3 sts)
  5. Row 4: Sc3tog. (1 st)
  6. Finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
  7. Using white yarn, repeat rows 1-4. Place white inner ear on tan ear and sew together.

Antlers (Make 2):

  1. Using brown yarn, ch 16.
  2. Row 1: Sl st in the 2nd ch from hook and in each of the next 5 ch, ch 4, sl st in the 2nd ch from hook and in next 2 ch, continue sl stitching through remaining 10 ch. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
  3. Sew antlers to top of the head.

Assembly:

  1. Sew the muzzle to the bottom center of the reindeer head.
  2. Sew the red nose onto the center of the muzzle.
  3. Sew black buttons or safety eyes above the muzzle evenly spaced.
  4. With black embroidery thread, embroider a smile below the nose.
  5. Sew ears onto the sides of the head and antlers at the top.
  6. Add a loop by chaining 15, fastening off, and sewing to the back-top of the head for hanging.
