Materials Needed

  • Yarn: Super bulky weight yarn (choose your favorite color!)
  • Hook: Size N/P (10mm) crochet hook
  • Scissors: For cutting yarn
  • Tapestry needle: For weaving in ends

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Foundation Chain: Start by making a foundation chain of 20 stitches. Ensure that your chain is not twisted. To do this, lay it flat before proceeding.
  2. Join the Chain: Join the last chain stitch to the first chain stitch using a slip stitch. This will form a ring. Be careful to keep the chain flat and untwisted.
  3. Round 1: Chain 2 (this counts as your first half double crochet, or hdc). Now, work 1 hdc in each stitch around the ring. After you’ve completed this round, join with a slip stitch to the top of the beginning chain-2.
  4. Round 2: Chain 2 again. For this round, you will alternate between front post double crochet (fpdc) and back post double crochet (bpdc).
    • Work a fpdc around the next stitch.
    • Then, work a bpdc around the following stitch.
Repeat this pattern (fpdc, bpdc) around the entire round. Once completed, join with a slip stitch to the top of the beginning chain-2.
  5. Continue Rounds: Repeat Round 2 until your piece measures approximately 10 inches or your desired length. This will give your arm warmers a nice textured look.
  6. Finishing: Once you have reached the desired length, fasten off your yarn. To do this, cut the yarn leaving a tail of about 6 inches. Pull the tail through the last loop on your hook and tighten it to secure.
  7. Weaving in Ends: Use a tapestry needle to weave in any loose ends. This will give your arm warmers a clean and polished finish.

Congratulations! You have successfully created your very own cozy chunky crochet arm warmers. Enjoy wearing them or gift them to a friend!
