Create a warm and inviting atmosphere with this beautifully textured cable knit blanket. Perfect for adding a handmade touch to your home decor, this blanket is not only functional but also a stunning piece of art that you can proudly display in your living space.

Materials Needed

  • Yarn: Bulky weight yarn in a soft beige color
  • Needles: US size 10 (6.0 mm) knitting needles
  • Gauge: 14 stitches and 20 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Cast On: Begin by casting on 120 stitches onto your knitting needle. Make sure your stitches are not too tight, as this will affect the elasticity of your blanket.
  2. Work the Ribbing:
    • Row 1: *K2, P2; repeat from * until the end of the row.
    • Row 2: Repeat Row 1.
    • Row 3: Repeat Row 1.
    • Row 4: Repeat Row 1.
    • Row 5: Repeat Row 1.
    • Row 6: Repeat Row 1.
This creates a 2x2 ribbing that will form the border of your blanket.
  3. Begin Cable Pattern:
    • Row 1 (Right Side): K4, *C8F (Cable 8 Front), K8; repeat from * to the last 4 stitches, K4.
    • Row 2 (Wrong Side): Purl all stitches.
    • Row 3: K4, *K8, C8B (Cable 8 Back); repeat from * to the last 4 stitches, K4.
    • Row 4: Purl all stitches.
    • Continue this pattern, alternating between the cable rows and purl rows, until your blanket reaches your desired length. Make sure to end with a Wrong Side row.
  4. Finish with Ribbing: After reaching your desired length, work in the 2x2 ribbing for 6 more rows, just as you did at the beginning.
  5. Bind Off: Once you have completed the final ribbing, bind off all stitches loosely to maintain the elasticity of the edge. To bind off, knit the first two stitches, then use the left needle to lift the first stitch over the second and off the needle. Continue this process until all stitches are bound off.
  6. Weave in Ends: Use a yarn needle to weave in any loose ends from your yarn. This will give your blanket a clean and polished look.

Congratulations! You have successfully created your very own cozy cable knit blanket. Enjoy snuggling up with your new handmade piece!
