Materials:

• Medium weight cotton yarn in various colors (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, pink, white)
• Crochet hook size H/8 (5 mm)
• Tapestry needle

Gauge:

4 inches (10 cm) = 7 rounds of granny square

Abbreviations:

• ch = chain
• sl st = slip stitch
• sc = single crochet
• dc = double crochet

Instructions:

Base:

1. With your first color, make a magic ring. Ch 3 (counts as first dc), 11 dc into ring. Join with sl st to top of ch 3. (12 dc)
2. Change color. Ch 3, dc in same st. 2 dc in each dc around. Join with sl st. (24 dc)
3. Change color. Ch 3, dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc. *Dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc; repeat from * around. Join with sl st. (36 dc)
4. Change color. Ch 3, dc in next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc. *Dc in next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc; repeat from * around. Join with sl st. (48 dc)
5. Continue in this pattern, switching colors as desired until your base measures approximately 12 inches in diameter.

Sides:

1. Choose a starting color, attach yarn to any st. Ch 3, dc in each st around. Join with sl st.
2. Repeat the previous round, changing colors every row, until the bag reaches your desired height (about 14 inches).

Handles:

1. With white yarn, attach yarn to any point on the edge. Ch 60, sk 20 sts, attach with sl st to the 21st st. Repeat for the other handle ensuring symmetry. Ensure each handle is securely attached by reinforcing with sc stitches if necessary.

Finishing:

• Weave in all ends using the tapestry needle.
• Block the bag to shape if necessary.
