  • sl st = slip stitch
  • sp = space

Instructions

Making the Granny Squares

1. Start with a Magic Circle: Create a magic circle by wrapping the yarn around your fingers and pulling a loop through the center.

2. Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), work 2 dc into the circle, ch 2, (3 dc, ch 2) three times. Pull the magic circle tight and join with a sl st to the top of the ch 3. You should have 4 clusters of 3 dc.

3. Round 2: Slip stitch into the first ch-2 sp. Ch 3 (counts as first dc), (2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in the same sp. In each of the next ch-2 spaces, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc). Join with a sl st to the top of the ch 3. You should now have 8 clusters in total.

4. Round 3: Change color if desired. Slip stitch to the first ch-2 space. Ch 3 (counts as first dc), (2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in the same sp. In each ch-2 space, repeat (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc). Join with a sl st to the top of the ch 3. Cut the yarn and weave in all ends. You now have a square.

5. Repeat: Repeat steps 1-4 for a total of 20 granny squares, alternating colors as desired.

Joining the Squares

1. Layout: Arrange your squares in a pleasing color pattern (5 squares across and 4 squares down to create a 30" x 40" blanket).

2. Join the Squares: Use a slip stitch or whip stitch to join the squares together. Insert the needle through the back loops of connected squares to hide seams. This method gives a clean finish.

Edging

1. Final Edging: Once your squares are joined, you can add a border around the blanket. Choose your favorite color to create a uniform look. Around the entire perimeter, crochet 1 round of sc, then 1 round of dc, ensuring to keep the edges firm. Finish with a slip stitch to secure.

Finishing

Weave in any loose ends with a tapestry needle. Block your blanket to ensure all squares lay flat and measurements are even.

Enjoy!

Your Colorful Flower Granny Square Blanket is now complete! This charming blanket makes a perfect gift for a baby shower or a cozy piece for your own home.
