Assembly and Finishing

Folding the cuff: Fold the cream cuff outward over the ankle so the turned rows show as a neat edge. The cuff should sit snugly around the top of the bootie.

Whipstitching the cuff (optional but recommended): Thread the long cream tail onto your tapestry needle. Bring the needle up through the folded edge of the cuff and down through the pink ankle fabric, then back up through the cuff, making small diagonal stitches about 1/4 inch apart all the way around. This holds the fold securely so it does not unroll when the bootie is worn.

Weaving in ends: Thread each yarn tail onto the tapestry needle and weave it back and forth through the inside of the bootie for about 1 inch, then trim close to the fabric. Do not knot the tails — weaving hides them and keeps the inside smooth against baby's skin.

Blocking: Lightly mist the finished booties with water and gently shape them with your hands so the sole lies flat and the toe is rounded. Let them air-dry completely on a flat surface. Blocking relaxes the stitches and gives the booties a neat, even finish.

Repeat all of the above for the second bootie.

Pro Tips and Variations

  • Change colors for a custom look. Use any two DK colors you love — a soft sage green with a cream cuff, a butter yellow with white, or a classic gray with a bright cuff. Simply change yarn at the start of the cuff as written.
  • Adjust the size. To make a slightly larger bootie, add one more increase round to the sole (for example, [Sc in next 6 sts, 2 sc in next st]
