- Yarn: 2 skeins of DK weight yarn in purple, 1 skein of DK weight yarn in cream
- Needles: US Size 8 (5.0 mm) knitting needles
- Gauge: 18 stitches and 24 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch
- Yarn needle for weaving in ends
Abbreviations:
- k = knit
- p = purl
- yo = yarn over
- k2tog = knit two together
- st(s) = stitch(es)
- RS = right side
- WS = wrong side
Instructions:
Cast On:
- Using the purple yarn, cast on 36 stitches using a long-tail cast-on method for a nice edge.
Start Scarf Body:
- Row 1 (RS): K2, *p2, k2; repeat from * to last 2 sts, k2.
- Row 2 (WS): K2, *p2, k2; repeat from * to last 2 sts, k2.
- Row 3 (RS): K2, *yo, k2tog; repeat from * to last 2 sts, k2.
- Row 4 (WS): K2, purl across to last 2 stitches, k2.
- Row 5 (RS): K2, *k2, yo, k2tog; repeat from * to last 2 sts, k2.
- Row 6 (WS): K2, purl across to last 2 stitches, k2.
- Repeat Rows 1-6 until work measures approximately 60 inches, or desired length. You can adjust the length by adding more repeats as needed.
Change Color:
- After reaching the desired length, switch to the cream yarn. Knit 4 rows in stockinette stitch (knit one row, purl one row). This will create a nice border.
Bind Off:
- Bind off loosely by knitting 2 stitches, then passing the first stitch over the second. Repeat until all stitches are bound off.
Finishing:
- Weave in any loose ends with a yarn needle.
- Block your scarf gently to open up the stitches, if desired.
Dimensions:
Finished scarf measures approximately 8 inches wide by 60 inches long.
Care Instructions:
Hand wash in cold water and lay flat to dry to maintain your scarf's shape.
