Stars and Stripes Banner Crochet Throw

Materials:

  • Red yarn: 4 skeins (Cotton Blend, 100g each)
  • White yarn: 3 skeins (Cotton Blend, 100g each)
  • Blue yarn: 2 skeins (Cotton Blend, 100g each)
  • Size H/8 (5 mm) crochet hook
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors

Gauge:

10 stitches and 12 rows = 4 inches in double crochet.

Abbreviations:

  • Ch = Chain
  • Dc = Double Crochet
  • Sl st = Slip Stitch
  • St(s) = Stitch(es)
  • Sc = Single Crochet

Instructions:

  1. Foundation Row: Using red yarn, ch 90 to start.
  2. Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in each ch across. (88 dc total) Turn.
  3. Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), *dc in next st, change to white yarn, dc in next 2 st; repeat from * across to the last 10 st. Change to red yarn, dc in remaining st. Turn.
  4. Row 3: Ch 3, *dc in next st (red), change to blue yarn, dc in next 2 st (blue), change back to white yarn, dc in next 3 st; repeat from * across, ending with dc in the last 5 st (red). Turn.
  5. Row 4: Ch 3, *dc in next 2 st (red), change to white yarn, dc in next 4 st, change to blue yarn, dc in next 2 st (blue); repeat from * across. Turn.
  6. Row 5: Ch 3, repeat Row 2 pattern with alternating colors until the blanket measures about 50 inches long.
  7. Finish with a final row of sc around the entire blanket using the color you began with (red).
  8. Weave in all ends with a yarn needle and trim.
  9. Final touch: Display your throw on your porch or use as a cozy blanket during your Independence Day celebrations!

Notes:

Feel free to adjust the size by chaining more or fewer stitches in the foundation, just remember to keep the stitches in multiples of 3 for the pattern to align properly.
