Lacy Openwork Sweater Pattern
Materials
- Yarn: Sport weight yarn, approximately 1000 yards in sand color.
- Needles: Size US 6 (4 mm) circular needles, 32 inches long.
- Tapestry needle for weaving in ends.
- Stitch markers.
Gauge
18 stitches and 24 rows = 4 inches in openwork stitch pattern.
Abbreviations
- CO: Cast On
- K: Knit
- P: Purl
- YO: Yarn Over
- SSK: Slip, Slip, Knit
- BO: Bind Off
Instructions
Back
- CO 108 stitches.
- Work in K2, P2 rib for 2 inches.
- Begin Openwork pattern:
Openwork Pattern
Row 1 (RS): *K1, YO, SSK; repeat from * to end.
Row 2 (WS): Purl all stitches.
Repeat these two rows until piece measures 20 inches from the beginning, ending on a WS row.
- BO all stitches loosely.
Front
- Repeat steps 1-4 for the back piece.
Sleeves (Make 2)
- CO 54 stitches.
- Work in K2, P2 rib for 2 inches.
- Begin Openwork pattern as established, increasing 1 stitch at each end of every 6th row until you have 84 stitches.
- Continue in pattern until sleeve measures 18 inches, ending on a WS row.
- BO all stitches loosely.
Finishing
- Block all pieces to measurements.
- With RS together, sew shoulder seams.
- Set in sleeves and sew side and sleeve seams.
- Weave in all ends with a tapestry needle.
