Lacy Openwork Sweater Pattern

Materials

  • Yarn: Sport weight yarn, approximately 1000 yards in sand color.
  • Needles: Size US 6 (4 mm) circular needles, 32 inches long.
  • Tapestry needle for weaving in ends.
  • Stitch markers.

Gauge

18 stitches and 24 rows = 4 inches in openwork stitch pattern.

Abbreviations

  • CO: Cast On
  • K: Knit
  • P: Purl
  • YO: Yarn Over
  • SSK: Slip, Slip, Knit
  • BO: Bind Off

Instructions

Back

  1. CO 108 stitches.
  2. Work in K2, P2 rib for 2 inches.
  3. Begin Openwork pattern:

Openwork Pattern

Row 1 (RS): *K1, YO, SSK; repeat from * to end.

Row 2 (WS): Purl all stitches.

Repeat these two rows until piece measures 20 inches from the beginning, ending on a WS row.

  1. BO all stitches loosely.

Front

  1. Repeat steps 1-4 for the back piece.

Sleeves (Make 2)

  1. CO 54 stitches.
  2. Work in K2, P2 rib for 2 inches.
  3. Begin Openwork pattern as established, increasing 1 stitch at each end of every 6th row until you have 84 stitches.
  4. Continue in pattern until sleeve measures 18 inches, ending on a WS row.
  5. BO all stitches loosely.

Finishing

  1. Block all pieces to measurements.
  2. With RS together, sew shoulder seams.
  3. Set in sleeves and sew side and sleeve seams.
  4. Weave in all ends with a tapestry needle.
