Lacy Crochet Baby Blanket

This crochet pattern is designed for a lovely baby blanket featuring a light and airy lace texture. Ideal for beginners, it uses simple stitches to create a beautiful piece that is both soft and warm. The blanket can be customized in size by adjusting the number of starting chains and is worked in a continuous pattern.

Materials

  • 5 skeins of worsted weight yarn in soft cream color
  • Size H (5.0 mm) crochet hook
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle for weaving in ends

Gauge

4 inches = 10 stitches in double crochet

Abbreviations

  • ch - chain
  • dc - double crochet
  • sl st - slip stitch
  • sk - skip
  • sp - space

Instructions

  1. Foundation Row: Start with a slip knot and chain 100 stitches (or more if you desire a larger blanket). Ensure that your chain is not too tight.
  2. Row 1: In the fourth chain from the hook, make 1 dc. *Make 1 dc in the next 2 ch, skip 2 ch, and in the next ch make 3 dc.* Repeat from * to * until 3 ch remain. Make 1 dc in the next 2 ch, then in the last ch make 2 dc. Turn your work.
  3. Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc). Make 1 dc in the next 2 dc. *In the next sp, make 3 dc, skip the next 2 dc, and in the next 2 dc make 1 dc each.* Repeat from * to * until 3 dc remain. Make 1 dc in the next 2 dc. Turn your work.
  4. Repeat Row 2: Continue repeating Row 2 until the blanket reaches the desired length. This may take approximately 30 rows depending on how long you wish the blanket to be.
  5. Final Row: To finish, repeat Row 2 one last time. Cut the yarn leaving a 6-inch tail and pull it through the last loop to secure it.
  6. Weave in Ends: Use the yarn needle to weave in any loose ends at the beginning and end of your work, ensuring your blanket is neat and tidy.

Finishing Touches

For an additional decorative touch, you may add a simple scalloped border by going around the entire blanket in single crochet, and then creating a few chained loops or shell stitches in the corners. This will add a charming detail to your lovely blanket!
