Cute Amigurumi Squirrel with Umbrella

Materials

  • Worsted weight yarn in beige, red, pink, purple, and blue
  • 4.0 mm (G) crochet hook
  • Safety eyes (6 mm)
  • Fiberfill stuffing
  • Yarn needle for sewing
  • Scissors

Gauge

Gauge is not critical for this project, but for reference, 4” x 4” = 16 stitches x 16 rows in single crochet.

Abbreviations

  • ch - chain
  • sc - single crochet
  • st(s) - stitch(es)
  • inc - increase (2 stitches in one stitch)
  • dec - decrease (crochet 2 stitches together)
  • sl st - slip stitch

Instructions

Squirrel Body

  1. Start with a magic ring and ch 1. (6 sc in magic ring) - Round 1
  2. Round 2: (inc) 6 times (12 st)
  3. Round 3: (sc in next st, inc) 6 times (18 st)
  4. Round 4: (sc in next 2 st, inc) 6 times (24 st)
  5. Rounds 5-10: sc in each st (24 st)
  6. Round 11: (sc in next 2 st, dec) 6 times (18 st)
  7. Round 12: (sc in next st, dec) 6 times (12 st)
  8. Stuff the body firmly with fiberfill.
  9. Round 13: (dec) 6 times (6 st)
  10. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Head

  1. Repeat as for the body, but stop after Round 10.
  2. Stuff the head lightly and attach the safety eyes between rounds 7 and 8, about 5 stitches apart.
  3. Round 11: (sc in next 2 st, dec) 6 times (12 st)
  4. Round 12: (dec) 6 times (6 st)
  5. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Sew head to body.

Ears (Make 2)

  1. With beige yarn, ch 2, sc in 2nd ch from hook. (2 st)
  2. Ch 1, turn; (inc) 2 times (4 st)
  3. Ch 1, turn; (inc) 4 times (8 st)
  4. Fasten off.
  5. Sew on top of the head.

Tail

  1. With red yarn, ch 10.
  2. Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook and across (9 st)
  3. Rows 2-3: ch 1, turn; sc across.
  4. Fasten off and sew tail to the back of the body.

Umbrella

  1. Start with a magic ring and ch 1. (6 sc in magic ring) - Round 1.
  2. Round 2: (inc) 6 times (12 st).
  3. Round 3: (sc in next st, inc) 6 times (18 st).
  4. Round 4: (sc in next 2 st, inc) 6 times (24 st).
  5. Change to pink yarn and repeat 3 times more, alternating between blue and pink, with the outermost round being blue.
  6. Once complete, fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.
  7. To create a handle, chain 10 with red yarn, then slip stitch back to the initial stitch to create a loop. Attach to the umbrella.

Assembly

  1. Position the umbrella above the squirrel's head and sew it in place securely.
  2. Ensure all pieces are securely sewn and weave in any remaining ends for a neat finish.
